This is great. There’s such a rhythmic, cyclic thing to this form (er, which i may have vaguely heard once in the foggy past, but had no idea what it actually consisted of until recently). Full of lines that are really enjoyable to say.

Thank you so much—this means a lot to me. I’m delighted the rhythm and return landed with you. That cyclical quality is such a deep part of the ghazal tradition, even when the form is working quietly in English.

There’s often a kind of sweetness to it—but it’s almost always laced with something a little unsettling. That contradiction—beauty wrapped around ache, or longing threaded with sharpness—is part of what makes the ghazal so obsessive and enduring in Urdu and Farsi poetry. It’s lovely to hear that some of that feeling came through for you.
